So for my husband’s birthday a year ago we gave him a 3D printer, of course I use it far more than he does and for such random things. However, the printer itself is quite handy when it comes to printing props for cosplay. For example in this project I’ve used it to print Princess Peach’s crown and broach. I’ve been debating whether I’ll use it for the earrings or if because my ears are very sensitive if I’ll find something else to do for the earrings.

Of course I learn more and more with the PLA printing every day and find that some filament prints better than others, and there are so many settings on the printer’s slicer that it is almost impossible to get it perfect or even mostly right. As time goes on I’m hoping I’ll eventually get this down to an art and not have so much sanding after a print.

Of course I’ve been terrified to actually cut the fabric, despite having so much of it ready to go and all the pretty lace, but once I make those first cuts this whole project becomes real. I had the same issue with Serenity’s dress I find myself staring at the fabric trying to convince myself to cut and remind myself I’m not to old to do this, I’m doing this for my kids and a little bit for me.
Cosplaying is a big thing these days, but I’m not young anymore and so I have to convince myself I’m not too old almost daily just to get myself to cut the fabric. I have always wanted to cosplay, I’ve wanted to make the dresses or costumes prance around in something I’ve made and be proud of it, but I always chicken out – telling myself that wasn’t going to be good enough anyway.
So here’s to forging ahead…
With Comic-con around the corner, Halloween just behind that, I’m hoping to be able to wear this dress for both. I have the wig and gloves in my cart on Amazon and with any luck I’ll be able to wear the dress confidently. In the meantime this weekend will be the first cuts of fabric and the first stitches in this project as I bring it all up to the kitchen and get to work.
