This could end Badly…

I’ve come to realize that in sewing you should probably understand measurements a whole lot better than I do. I mean I can get by, but I’m starting to realize I don’t know what a 1.5cm seam allowance really looks like – which is leading to a whole lot of ‘mismeasurements’ and could lead to this dress not even fitting me.

I did measure myself, I did make sure that I was cutting the right size, but I also should have taken a bit more time to understand the “seam” allowance more than I actually do and maybe I wouldn’t be looking at the flaws thinking what can I do to fix that.

My husband tells me it will just be better next time. And I tell myself I need to get a ruler… or something.

In the process of creating the bodice I’ve come to understand why the author of the pattern indicated “intermediate” or “Really patient beginner” I’ve pulled apart more seams than I care to and re-sewn more parts than I likely should have. Some lace covers some mistakes but I am glad I didn’t put the gold parts on first – I think I’d be more frustrated if they were off center.

I’m learning a lot – and appreciating I should have read the instructions through because I certainly don’t have the cording I need to make the little roll hem thing, and I don’t have the boning to put into the dress either – now the boning is optional but given my size may be necessary. .

My lining is thin and doesn’t have much weight to it, but I think I’m going to pick up another one that is little thicker so the boning has something there to hold it.

Off to the fabric store tomorrow where hopefully I can pick up all the missing pieces and get this dress finished this week – I know pipe dream. Oh and I got the wig…

Till then… good night.
