I gathered up the fabric this morning and sat down at the kitchen table to begin cutting out the material for the bodice. The skirt was about 10-20 pages in the instructions and the bodice was considerably more, and the bodice is going to be less forgiving than the skirt was. The skirt could have errors it would be buried in the folds or under the overskirt. There was room for mistakes, the bodice, there is no room for the same mistakes.
So I cut as carefully as I could and then I sat down to pin the first pieces and stared at those instructions. It’s now 10:41 PM and I have done nothing more than pin, I have no idea what I’m doing and feeling particularly discouraged given nothing seems to line up but I know I cut it right, I know I did it right.
Thankfully there is a lot of material left over (feels a lot like when you assemble furniture and you stare at the extra parts and start to question WHY are there extra parts. There shouldn’t be extra parts, so why is it I have a lot of material left over. What mistakes have I made? Here’s hoping I haven’t made any grevious ones…
Tomorrow I’ll sit down at the table and hopefully begin the assembly of the bodice, my goal is to have the dress done by the end of my vacation August 31. Of course my last week of vacation I’d like to spend with my son adventuring but Comic con is coming up and I don’t want to run out of time.
The costume is meant for Halloween but I am hoping to “show it off” at comic con.
Here’s hoping tomorrow goes smoothly.
