It all Came together, Onto the Next

So I realize I never posted the end result of the Princess Peach project, of course with Ottawa comic-con coming up behind me a lot faster than I thought it would I didn’t really have time to post the final steps. The dress did complete though, and as frustrated as I was with the scallops and the sometimes far more complicated than I wanted instructions, it was all worth it to see the look on my son’s face when I came up the stairs from my office looking like Princess Peach. And nothing could compare to the feeling of walking the convention and being stopped here and there for a picture as little kids smiled up at me, or tugged on their mom’s clothes telling them “Look Mom!! Princess Peach!”

I think overall the best comment was from one uncle who came and found me at my husband’s booth after and told me I made his niece’s day when I posed for a picture with her. It took all my self esteem issues of being a plus sized peach and kicked them to the curve.

It was truly an amazing time, and I wanted to wear the costume all the time – but having to pee in it was a pain and in a convention hall, all those layers of fabric were a lot!

So now I breach into the next project the project that often has me staring at my tablet screen and pulling my own hair out. My writing project.

It can be frustrating to know there is a story in my head that I just can’t put into words. I want so much to just write it and do what all the sayings tell me to do “Write like nothing matters.” Or to “Write from the heart.” But I get in my own head and I get in my own way.

I end up staring at the screen and watching that blinking cursor as I try to figure out what exactly is it that I want to write? Do I write the fantasy novel that is stuck in there or do I write the romance story like the cheesy movies I watch in my bedroom at night in order to just not think about the crazy world we live in.

Will any of it be any good? Then I’m stuck I try to plan, the plans are easier but the actual text, what’s the first line, is it gripping, does it draw someone in? How do you pull in the reader, get them engaged and lost in your world, your pages – what does that actually look like?

They say write what you know… what is that exactly? I don’t think I’ll meet a phoenix or a dragon in my 9-5 but that’s where my head is, the story of the phoenix.

The story of two princes, in a world that is changing before them a world they can’t control. A story that is about nothing I truly know.

Somewhat here, somewhat crazy, it all works out in the wash.
